One week in February, I had come home from my current assignment for a visit. His work was having an awards dinner and we had both dressed up, he arrived to pick me up with a bouquet of multi-colored flowers and we headed off to the dinner. It really was an enjoyable evening. As we headed back to my house at the end of the night, he was more quiet than his normal self. He kept playing the same song over and over in the truck. When we pulled in at the house, he made sure the same song was playing... Florida Georgia Line & Bebe Rhexa "If It's Meant To Be". He came over and opened my door. I got out and proceeded to hug him, the same I did every time he dropped me off at home. This time, though, he only hugged me with one arm and kept the other one in his jacket pocket. Of course I told him to hug me right! So he finally hugged me with both arms and continued to ask, "how attached are you to your last name?" I told him I figured I would get rid of it someday. (Still completely oblivious) He continued fumbling around with his words and telling me how much I meant to him and how much he loved me and then got down on one knee and asked me to be his wife. I had always joked with him and told him I would say no at least the first couple of times he asked, and I honestly considered it in the moment, but decided against it and said, Yes!

After almost a year of dating I knew I wanted to pop the question, but I couldn't come up with the perfect way to ask. I spent several weeks trying to come up with the perfect plan. I finally decided that I was just going to go for it. On an evening after we had dressed up and gone to an awards dinner for my job, we pulled back in the driveway to drop her off for the night, and before she got out of the truck I asked her a quick question, "how attached are you to your last name?"  And in all my fumbling of words I basically said that I could come up with some crazy way of asking her to marry me, but at the end of the day I just knew I wanred her to be my wife. And the rest as they say is history.
